Procedures - Liposuction

When skin elasticity is reasonably good, localized fat deposits can be reduced and reshaped to better match the surrounding contour. The result is a thinner, more attractive overall appearance. Liposuction is for changing contour, not changing weight. Many people think that you can lose a significant amount of weight by undergoing liposuction. You can't.

Liposuction is a wonderful tool when used correctly. The best uses of liposuction are those areas that I call "protected deposits". For men, the "love handles" or "spare tire" are protected. In women, the saddlebags (inner and outer thighs), tummy (just below the navel) and often the flanks just will not go away. Often a person can be at or below his or her ideal body weight and still have these deposits. For some reason, the body has decided that these areas are the "storehouse" for fat deposits. Liposuction is great at removing these! Contour irregularities can be improved no matter what the weight is but liposuction is not intended as a treatment for obesity.

Though many are interested in liposuction for the abdomen, it may not be the best choice for women who have had children. Pregnancy stretches a woman's skin and connective tissue between the muscles tremendously. In this case, a tummy tuck would be needed. For more information see Abdominoplasty.

In a personal consultation with Dr. Coffey, he will take the time necessary to answer any questions you might have toward realizing your particular goals for improving our body contour. You will be given the opportunity to view a video and to see photos of his work. Upon scheduling your surgery, you will be given pre-operative and post-operative instructions.
